8/10/2015 6 Comments A Dandelion Day!What is it with little kids and dandelions? Is it the happy, sunny, bright yellow flower? Is it the soft, translucent ball of puff? Is it the magic of wishes and watching the fluff waft away in the wind? Is it that they grow wild and pop up in unexpected places? Or is it that children are at the perfect height to be able to notice and appreciate the little things? I love this - Urbandictionary.com defines a dandelion day as: "A happy day, the brightest in the longest time ever. When you have a dandelion day, you feel nice and soft on the inside because everything feels warm." It's dandelion season at my house. I go walking outside and I spy these first two little beauties, and I feel like the little girl in the third picture of Katrina McKelvey and Kirrily Lonergan's book: When chatting to Katrina McKelvey, author of newly published Dandelions at Lunch with the Stars recently, I mused how interesting it is that dandelions feature prominently in books for children, including mine! When I See Grandma has a dandelion puff in the vase on the front cover, the little boy plucking dandelions on his way to present them to Grandma, and the puff-plume provides a link from Grandma's bedroom to her dreams. There's something ethereal and whimsical about the dandelion! And symbolic in it's transformation. I found a stunning video by Neil Bromhall on YouTube showing this transformation using time lapse photography- it is stunning and worth watching (although the music is a little sad!) - find it here.
