Simple Cooking Recipe

This was one of my mother's favourite slices. She used to make it with sultanas and mixed dried fruit. I liked it so much that I made myself sick by eating too much and then couldn't eat it for a long time.
My children have now discovered the recipe and it is one their favourites - they use dates as the fruit. Thankfully I can now eat it again - although I need to be careful not to over indulge!
The recipe is from a sweet little hand made typed book that women members of my mother's church put together to share recipes with each other. My mother hand wrote this recipe on the back.

Fruit Slice
Mix together: 1 cup SR flour
1 cup fruit (we use chopped dates, mum used sultanas etc)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup coconut
Add: 1 egg
Pour over 3-4 oz (we use 70-80 g) melted margarine (we use butter)
Bake in a moderate oven for 20 mins until golden brown.
