Everyone had a very enjoyable morning and loved meeting Debra. She did a great job entertaining the kids and sharing her knowledge of writing her beautiful books. Dominique Heriot, Customer Relations Officer, Holbrook Library, on presentation to Tumbarumba Public School and All Saints School K-2.
Shore Northbridge Campus were delighted to host Debra Tidball during Book Week 2023. From the outset, Debra held the attention of our youngest learners with her compelling story telling and incredible ability to inspire participation from the crowd. Debra included games, ukulele playing, as well as storytelling to captivate the audience who loved hearing about all the books she has written. The children were also interested to learn how Debra worked with her illustrator to create the characters in her books and after listening to the story Anchored, they were encouraged to draw tugboats of their own. Our teaching staff commented about the great value Debra added to our Book Week, making books come to life. I would highly recommend Debra to your school or library as an excellent presenter, author and facilitator. Clare Froggatt, Shore Northbridge Teacher Librarian.

I'm an experienced presenter and available for author talks and writing workshops in schools, and talks and readings in preschools. All my presentations are fun and interactive with lots of props and audience participation.
Why chose me?
My presentations are fun and interactive, bringing literature alive for students, and as an award-winning author, I can pass on writing tips and skills with students, in an effective and engaging way, for them to be able to carry over into their own work.
My books fit nicely with the NSW Department of Education’s Wellbeing Framework, they touch on resilience and understanding yourself and others, as well having curriculum links to English, HSIE and PDHPE. My picture books are highly awarded and on the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
My writing workshops use The Scared Book as a launch pad to discuss aspects of character and writing technique, as students interact with and examine elements of my picture-book character. The hands-on workshops involves readings, discussion, drawing, writing exercises and role plays. Students will develop their own, unique character as a way to finding plot and exploring many essential story elements and narrative devices.
My author talks are playful and lively, celebrating the joy of books and engaging students' imagination.

What teachers are saying:
"It was such a treat to have Debra with us at preschool, for Book Week. Children were so engaged listening to her book, ‘ The Scared Book’ come alive through her story telling. Debra was so generous with her time also, letting all the children explore her puppets and show her their own scary creations afterwards. Thank you for visiting us, Debra. We hope to have you back someday soon!"
