16/2/2016 8 Comments Give a bookFebruary 14th is a great day to share the love - not just with Valentine flowers and cards but also with BOOKS as February 14th is also International Book Giving Day! Read about this noble venture to get books into the hands of children here. I am fortunate to get a steady stream of free books in my role as a book reviewer for the Children's Book Council of Australia. So this year, I thought I'd use these books to give away on International Book Giving Day (plus throw in a copy or two of When I See Grandma!). But HOW would I go about giving away my books? Would I stalk children in my local park, book in hand and thrust it at them as they swished down the slippery slide? Would I wrap the books neatly and leave them with a note flapping in the breeze to wave over someone passing by? Would I brave the sneezes and wheezes of the surgery and leave my books for children waiting at the doctor's? Spurred on by these and other ideas I saw on Facebook, I put my thinking cap on. And then I got it! What I would do! In keeping with the spirit of When I See Grandma, I left my bundles of books at care homes for the elderly, so that visiting families and residents could share the love. And I hope they do. Will you join me celebrating International Book Giving Day next year?
