It was absolute delight to meet with students in year 3-6 at Toongabbie for book week. Despite the hype of the book parade, the students were all attentive and responsive in our sessions - in fact the teacher's couldn't get a look-in at question time. We had fun playing with words, telling stories and looking at how illustrations and manuscripts develop over time. I even managed to dig out an old photo of me as a child at a book week parade! can you guess which one is me??

Come and see me at Book Expo at Sydney Showground this Saturday (30th) - join in the world record attempt at a paper doll chain and meet authors, illustrator, publishers and all people bookish. 

Then on Sunday (31st), I'll be at the CBCA Big Book Day Out at the NSW Writer's centre between 10 and 11.30 with more amazing authors and illustrators - it's a very children's book inspired weekend.

What fun, fun, fun we had at Berkelouw Books in Hornsby Westfield today. Illustrator Leigh Hedstrom was on hand to show us how she creates her wonderful pictures, and some lucky kids got to take home portraits of themselves. Many hands helped make a mural of favourite books, and the colouring table was always busy. We even had our own personal pipe band outside the window! Thanks to all those who joined in the spirit of the day!
